A fan of from far east
by Kazu Spara

How many fan of Bud e Terence knows that their films are released in Japan? Since in the middle of 70's we started to speak about them. Nevertheless their reputation is not correct. Bud Spencer was known as a actor well powerfull but that's all, and Terence Hill was regarded a simple handsome star in Italy. Inhappily the opinions of cinema enthusiasts was fixed on there without enough looking their films.
For the spaghetti western film (called Macaroni western in Japan) we estimete a film more realistic, painful and more pathetic above all. Generally we prefer a story of revenge. we always added an image like this: a vagabond wanders alone in an isolated place for looking for his ennemy under the setting sun. I like this diagram but it's not all in the world of spaghetti western. There is also the happy side. Finally... the majority of the Bud e Terence film didn't have a big success in Japan. Because of the cultural difference, we can say that. But I can not agree with this idea all the same.
I want to tell that Bud Spencer & Terence Hill are special existences for some people in the world. Someone regard them as a father, brother and a friend or hero of childhood. I watch their films with a little of nostalgia to the life in Europe. I had been in Paris during 2 years. All of my friend knows Bud e Terence and we speaked about them sometimes, tried to find out their films each other. The first film that I've watched is Lo chiamavano Trinità, in the film Trinità said "I am always occuppied to do nothing" (Je suis toujours occupé de ne rien faire). Then I said in my head, he is me !
I felt that Trinità justified me. Of course I am not strong and honnest like him, but Trinità became my friend since this moment. I desided to go to Europe for live more naturally, so Trinità is a familiar symbol of the freedom for me.
Now I am in Japan. I always try to speak about Bud e Terence with some fans of the movies. But no one has a same feeling with me. Some peaple mock my passion. I think that they are too shy to accepte the kindness from the Bud e Terence films. That's true that Bud e Terence films are for the open mind. It is not necessary to analyze their film with a grimace. Just enjoy it with them.
I visited Rome recently, I asked about Bud e Terence with 2 persons. One, a girl of 20 years old, who said "They are too stupid ! I watch only Pasolini or Fellini". The other, a man of 19 years old, said "They are so cool ! and I like them". I was so happy of this answer that I did him a another qustion : Do you like Tomas Milian too ? "Of course ! " he said. I suppose that it was a little of surprise that a japanese knows them.
Anyhow I continue to be with Bud e Terence, and I can comunicate with the fan of them thanks to the internet. I can't write english well but I do, or no one enjoy the unverse of Bud e Terence around me in Japan. Don't say always "occupied" and take it easy because life is short. No need to live fast.
I love Bud e Terence because we are happy !
